WELCOME!

Hello all!

This is a blog created by Bruguers Jardí, Vanesa Miguez, Raquel Joaquín, Vanessa Góngora and Virgínia Aragonés, aka 'The Golden Girls'. In this blog we have designed a series of activities that will help improve the 4 skills (Listening, Reading,  Speaking and Writing) for 3rd year of ESO's students.

The topic we have chosen is recycling, reusing, and reducing because we think is crucial that children learn the importance of doing everything possible to keep our planet green, and what is more, it is essential to learn strategies for promoting sustainability.

The assessment of each contribution goes as follows:
-Vanessa Góngora's webquest: 25%
-Vanesa Miguez's hot potatoes activities: 15%
-Raquel's activities: 20%
-Virgínia's webquest: 25%
-Bruguers's quizzes: 15%

Enjoy!

WebQuest by Vanessa Góngora Jurado

Hello everyone!

My name is Vanessa Gongora and I have designed an activity using WebQuest based on the topic of recycling. WebQuest is a web-based learning activity that incorporates research, problem solving and internet resources. It is divided into 6 sections: Introduction, Task, Process, Resources, Evaluation and Conclusion.

The learning objective of my activity is to work on previous knowledge related to recycling and introduce some new terms using audio-visual material. These activities are focused on working and improving listening and speaking skills. Students will work in groups of 4’s and will answer some questions about the video they have been watching/listening to. Part of these questions can be considered comprehension questions and the rest “opinion” questions where students give their own ideas and conclusions. After watching 2 videos, one based on “why recycling is important” and “the three R’s –reuse, reduce, recycling”, students will pretend they are attending a summit about recycling and will prepare an oral presentation. They will have to choose from two questions: “How to recycle in schools” and “How do you reduce, reuse and recycle at home?” and present their recommendations to their colleagues.

Do not forget to complete the online survey about Recycling in the Conclusion section.

Happy recycling!

Introduction to Vanesa Miguez's activities

Hi friends!

I’m Vanesa Miguez Martinez and today we are going to practise the vocabulary what we have learnt on the video clips about RECYCLING.
Remember this: reducing, reusing, and recycling is crucial nowadays. It is up to you to save our planet Earth!!

... And this as well: reduce the amount of waste you generate by avoiding over-packaged products, and reuse items when possible, such as water bottles.
You can also donate the toys that you don’t longer use as well as your clothes to children in need. That can make them happy!
We can  start recycling by doing simple things, such as reusing an old plastic bag from the supermarket or carrying a long-life bag instead. Why wasting more plastic?

In order to practise your knowledge about this Recycling word, try to do these exercises all included in HOT POTATOES, the webtool which creates educational exercises. You will have the opportunity to know three of them called:

J QUIZ: a short quiz for you to answer. Just answer what you would do in each situation! Then have a little discussion with your partner about the results you obtained in this quiz.

J CLOZE: you have to fill in the gaps with the best word you think best fits. You will have some clues if you click on “hints”

J MATCH: you have to join together each word with its definition

Enjoy them boys and girls !!!

Some questions about RECYCLING

Some questions about RECYCLING

what would you do when...

Please select only one answer for each question.

Results:
-If you answered the 4 questions with a B: you are an expert on the RECYCLING WORLD!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
-If you answered 2 or 1 with a B: mmmm…well, you need to improve a little bit! I’m sure that from now on this experience will help you to know the pros and cons about recycling/ reduce/reuse and in a few days you will become a real expert! But the most important thing is..... don't stop recycling every day !!!

Now, briefly discuss with your friend why you have chosen your answers and see the similarities or differences. Why do you think it is so important to reduce, reuse and recycle? Are you reducing/reusing/recycling nowadays? Give some examples to your classmate of each of them.
