WebQuest 2: LET'S RECYCLE! by Virgínia Aragonés

Hi everybody! I'm Virgínia Aragonés and I have created a WebQuest about recycling, so that 3rd of ESO students can learn how and what to recycle, and its benefits.

For those who are not familiar with the tool, a WebQuest is "an inquiry-oriented lesson format in which most or all the information that learners work with comes from the web"(definition from Webquest.org). This WebQuest aims at improving both reading and writing skills while learning about the importance of recycling.

As any standardized WebQuest, it is divided into seven sections: welcome (welcoming message to your students), introduction (brief introduction about what the WebQuest contains, its aims, etc.), task (description of the tasks), process (detailed description of the steps that students must follow as well as the links to the webs they have to check), evaluation (explanation of how the students are going to be assessed+rubric), conclusion (brief comment on what have the students learnt by doing the WebQuest), and teacher's page (a message to teachers pointing out the usefulness of the WebQuest).

There are two main tasks: a reading comprehension and a writing. The first activity consists on reading the information about recycling that appears in the offcial website of Santa Clara's university. Then, students have to do three reading comprehension activties (open questions, a crossword, and a quiz, each one corresponding to one brief text of the university's website). The second activtity consists on writing a letter to the mayor, explaining a recyling proposal. The first activity is individual, whereas the second one has to be done in pairs. (For further explanaitions check the WebQuest)

The main goal of the WebQuest is to make students aware of the importance of recycling, and how they can contribute to keep a substainable planet. And of course, by doing this WebQuest students will improve their reading and writing skills!
